About Healthline Apps

We test the health apps people actually use and tell you what we found, including what doesn’t work.

Our story

Healthline has covered health apps for years inside the main site. The questions people ask about these apps are specific: Which one is most accurate? What do you actually get for free? Is the paid tier worth it?

Healthline Apps is the dedicated portal for those questions. We put the nutrition and calorie apps through our test protocol and publish what we find: rankings, in-depth reviews and buying guidance. Our accuracy figures come from a 180-meal weighed-food validation, published as a pre-print by the Dietary Assessment Initiative. Every accuracy claim we make traces back to that data, and every price to a dated check. Our sleep, meditation, fitness, period and mental health rankings aren’t lab-measured, and they say so: those apps are scored on features, free tier, price and consensus standing.

Our editorial standards

Every page on this site follows the same rules:

  • Evidence over marketing. We report what we measured, with the logging mode stated, and we say when a figure comes from a single study.
  • Honest pros and cons for every product. Every app gets specific cons, our top picks included.
  • Cited sources. Our accuracy data is published as a pre-print by the Dietary Assessment Initiative. We say plainly that a pre-print hasn’t been through peer review.
  • Plain language. We write for you, not for app makers, and we avoid marketing terms.
  • Not measured means not measured. Apps we haven’t tested are labeled, and their scores rest on features and consensus standing.
  • Dated prices, visible paywalls. Prices are marked “as of November 2026,” and we call out any feature that costs extra.
  • No paid placements. No app can pay to appear in, or move up, a ranking or a review.
  • Nothing invented. No testimonials, fake or otherwise. No invented sub-scores. No fake screenshots.

Who we are

Our reviews and rankings are written by the Healthline Apps Team. Healthline Apps is a product-testing portal, not a source of medical content, so we publish under a team byline rather than individual bylines, and we don’t use medical reviewers. The authority for what we publish sits in our methodology: if you want to know why we said something, How we test should tell you.

What we don’t do

We compare apps. We don’t give medical advice. If you’re making decisions about your diet, a medication or a health condition, talk with a healthcare professional. Some of our pages include short safety notes, for example before you start intermittent fasting, but they aren’t a substitute for that conversation.
